SURL Study Shows 83% People Are Satisfied With iPad
Dec 23, 2011 News
Despite the increasing number of offerings from the rivalries, Apple has managed to maintain a significant lead in the Tablet PC space. Market research firm IDC reports that Apple’s share of global market in the third quarter was estimated to be 61.5%. Another study by Software Usability Research Laboratory (SURL) shows Apple iPad continues to satisfy its customers.
According to the study (SURL’s study used a small sample set of 52 respondents), 83.65% were satisfied with the iPad. The survey also asked to rate the user-friendliness of the device — 62% rated the iPad as “Excellent”, 21% rated as “Good”, 10% as “Best Imaginable”, 4% as “Fair”, 2% as “Poor”.
According to the respondents, the popularity of iPad was because of the variety of apps, the large screen size and portability. What people liked least was the poor quality of some apps, the inability to play Adobe Flash, and problems typing with the keyboard.
SURL stated that Apple actually listens to its customers. Participants from the original study mentioned that lack of camera and the ability to do multitasking is one of the drawbacks of the tablet PC. Apple introduced cameras in iPad 2 and the multitasking feature was introduced for both ipad and ipad 2.

WWDC 2011: iCloud Would Cost $25 A Year?
Jun 3, 2011 iPad development, News
Speculations reaches its crescendo as Apple’s annual WWDC draws near. As this year’s WWDC comes more close (only 2 days to go), new facts are coming up about Apple’s new iCloud service, which is going to be launched in WWDC 2011.
According to sources “familiar with the negotiations” who spoke with the L.A. Times, Apple plans to charge $25 per year to use the service, with a free trial period for those who purchase music through iTunes. Apple is also planning to sell ads on the iCloud and users can not just stream to their iOS devices but also any computer via a Web browser.
The LA Times writes, “The agreements, finalized this week, call for Apple to share 30 percent of any revenue from iCloud’s music service with record labels, as well as 12 percent with music publishers holding the songwriting rights. Apple is expected to keep the remaining 58 percent, said people knowledgeable with the terms.”
So, as far as information, apart from music, there are no signs of any other content for iCloud. There are also speculations that Apple may make iCloud free to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) users and introduce TV and movies to the service.

Apple Visits Samsung To Secure AMOLED Supply for iPad 3?
May 26, 2011 News
It has been reported by Korea Herald that Apple Inc. COO, Tim Cook had a meeting with senior level Samsung executives in South Korea last week to secure the supply of AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) displays for what could be probably for iPad 3. Ironically, both the companies are in courts to settle disputes over mobile device design.
An anonymous source told Korea Herald that “Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad 2″. Although Samsung does not use this AMOLED technology in their tablets but report suggests that Samsung might consider using it in their future tablets.
Samsung denied that they did not have any discussions about AMOLED displays with Apple. Samsung Mobile Display spokesperson told OLED-Info that “he had not heard of such discussions with Apple.”
However, it isn’t the first time that these two giants are having talks on AAMOLED. In October 2010 Samsung apparently sold all its 2011 AMOLED production to Apple, allegedly for use in the iPad 2, though this didn’t happen.
AMOLED technology is considered to be superior to LCD (liquid-crystal display) technology.
