Google Introduces Updated iPad Search App
Nov 23, 2011 iPad apps
Google has updated their Google Search app for iPad with Google Instant Search capability. This iPad app from Google will now display results as and when a user types any keyword.
The iPad app has also been updated with a new search history system that has been designed to make it easier for iPad users to find old searches on the iPad. Daniel Fish – Google’s software engineer for iPad explains in a blog post.
“Often you may be looking to find something you have seen before or are continuing research on a topic. But on a tablet, typing can be a challenge. That is why we have created a visual way to explore your search history,” Fish said.
“Swipe right to view snapshots of pages you’ve visited, stacked and organized by search term. You can also manage your search history from this new view.”
However, this update from Google has somewhat annoyed members from its own community. Several Android tablet owners have shown their frustrations with Google for giving importance to rival smartphone than its own platform.

Six Figure For iPad: iPad Apps Crosses 100,000!
Jul 1, 2011 iPad development, News
Bravo!! It is now six figures for iPad. Apple App Store is showing 100,000 apps specially for iPad. An achievement of a kind in just 15 months, since the tablet went on sale. “That’s a record: it took Apple more than 16 months to put together 100,000 iPhone apps,” noted Cult of Mac.
To be more precise, the platform has been out for 453 days, with developers getting access to its software development kit in January 2010. At Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the company announced that it had 90,000 iPad apps, but it appears that number has grown in less than a month’s time.
Apple is already in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the “Most Popular Application Marketplace.” However, Apple has yet to confirm the latest count.

iBooks Bugs And How to Configure
Dec 31, 2010 iPad apps, ipad review

Problem with iBooks disappearing from your iBookshelf, or getting a configuration error telling you have to restore your iPhone or iPad and reinstall iBooks? You’re not alone. We’ll go over the bug and try to troubleshoot after the break!
Disappearing iBooks
iBooks seems to be… well, a little quirkier when it comes to errors than its older iTunes and App Store cousins. Sometimes when it launches you can watch your iBookshelf populate with titles only to see one or more disappear right before your eyes. (We’ve had readers report a dozen or more disappearing). Luckily, you can redownload your previously purchased iBooks:
- Tap Store, top right
- Tap Purchases, bottom left
- Tap redownload for any iBooks that have disappeared
It’s a pain but it’s better than music, movies, or TV Shows where there are no re-downloads.
If you’re near your Mac or Windows PC, you can also just re-sync and that might fix it, though I’ve had to redownload some even after sync.

iBooks configuration error
This one is even more galling. You tap to open a book and start reading but instead get an error messages saying “There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone [or iPad]. Please restore with iTunes and reinstall iBooks.”
Restoring in iTunes is a nuclear option and Apple shouldn’t be so quick to recommend it. In my experience, the following work in most cases:
- Exit iBooks
- Double click the Home Button
- Tap and hold iBooks in the Fast App Switcher dock to put it into Jiggly Mode
- Tap the X in the corner to Force Quit iBooks
- Click the Home to exit back to the Home Screen
- Relaunch iBooks
Others have recommended restarting your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, or syncing to iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC. Restoring your device should be a last resort.
Few users are saying that this only affects devices with multiple iTunes accounts on them, or Jailbroken devices, but there’s no clear pattern we can determine so I think it’s most likely just a bug. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon. They invented iTunes, dagnabit. Managing digital downloads should be a cakewalk for them by now.

Learn Objective-C 2.0 for Mac OS x and ipad app development
Nov 26, 2010 iPad apps, iPad development, News
Objective-C is an object oriented programming language and an extension to “C” language that adds Smalltalk-style messaging to C programming language . Objective-C is quite popular and primarily used on Apple’s Mac OS X and iOS environments . It is also the language Apple uses to build their own applications and frameworks . So if you want to develop apps for these Apple platforms you need to have the power of Objective-C at your fingertips . But if you are a beginner at C and object oriented programming , you will have a tough time figuring it out.
A lot of people want to learn Mac OS X and iPad app development these days and there are various ways to do so . One of them is Books which have always formed the base of learning system and come in various languages and from different authors . ” Learning Objective-C 2.0 – A hands on Guide to Objective-C for Mac and iOS Developers ” is a handy guide for newbies who have some working knowledge of C even if your C is rusty you can have a quick look at the basics and essential parts of C in the first few chapter , this will brush up your basics and prepare you to get started with Objective-C 2.0 .
The books cover some really interesting and essential aspects of Objective C and C programming language . Have a look at them below :
- The books takes care of basic concepts of C programming language for beginners while it also explains with examples how to deal with advance issues .
- The level of explanation is a perfect fit for both , a beginner and an advanced programmer .
- The is a helpful reference guide for experts who are more into advanced programming .
- Developers really don’t need to think about Mac Development in a different way. It shows how close Mac Development is with iOS or vise versa.
- The book covers every little feature of Objective-C 2.0 right from class instances till the recently introduced (in Objective-C 2.0) “Blocks programming”. It also explains newbies what is Cocoa Framework & what are its components.
- It actually explains complex concepts in very easy language with great examples.
New concepts introduced in Objective-C 2.0 :
- Garbage collection – adds automatic memory management to Objective-C
- Blocks – let you define function like objects that carry their context
- Declared properties – provide an easy way to specify an object’s instance variable and to have the compiler create methods to access those variables for you.
- Fast Enumeration – provide a simple and fast way to iterate over a collection of objects .
This is by far the best book which explains ‘Memory Management’ so well, with in depth of Retain count, etc. If one ever had a problem understanding memory management even in C++ or another language, we suggest them going through this book once and read how Garbage Collection works on Mac and how it’s done in iOS , which has been explained in detail. We completely admire this chapter of the book. Another thing we like about the book is the explanation on ‘Block programming’ , which has been recently introduced in Objective-C 2.0 and will be a great asset to developers .
If you plan to learn iPad(iOS) app development or Mac OS X development this book is worth its price of $20.94 . You can get it from Amazon as a kindle edition or a paperback format . Whats inside the book ? Have a look here .

Google Docs editing now coming to your iPad

Native editing for Google Docs will be available on the iOS device closest to you within the next few days — if not already.
Google issued a press release this morning, complete with a demo set to some snazzy music demonstrating the new editor in action. Google said that the it will be available on all iOS devices, plus those with Android version 2.2 and higher, within the next few days. You need iOS 3.0 or above to run the mobile Google Docs editor.
Checked out on my iPad and saw that I could already edit my documents. For basic editing of your projects on the fly, it’s not bad at all. But, it’s very basic editing at best and does not have any support for styling text or customizing spreadsheets like Documents 2 Go and Quickoffice do.
