Now Gmail and Calendar Have Push Notifications On The iPad App

Google today announced an update to its Google Mobile App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, bringing push notifications for Gmail and Google Calendar.

Ever missed an appointment or important email because you were away from your desk? Now Google Mobile App can help with push notifications from your Google account to your iPad — an icon badge shows you’ve got new mail in Gmail, and Google Calendar event reminders appear right on your home screen.

Also included in the update is as-you-type results for searches on flight info, weather, stock quotes and currency conversions.

The update appears to just be going live now, and may not yet be appearing for all users.

Lets see what all the iPad development team over at Google has pushed out for iPad users this season .

App Store now lists over 250,000 apps

Fortune noted over the weekend that Apple’s App Store has surpassed 250,000 active applications, a little over two years after the store’s debut.

Current App Store statistics from AppShopper
According to AppShopper, there are currently 254,916 apps in the App Store. Over 300,000 applications in total have been approved over the App Store’s history, but nearly 50,000 previously-approved apps are no longer available in the store.

iPad app Developers are continuing to press forward on Apple’s iPad tablet device, with nearly 25,000 apps now available in either iPad-only or universal formats to provide user interfaces and features optimized for the larger screen size.

Apple App Store now truly Genius

Apple has quietly added Genius functionality to the iPad App store. Genius offers users recommendations for other apps based on those you have already downloaded using data collected from other users who have also downloaded that app.

It is not a complete overhaul to the store by any means, but does offer a useful tool for those looking to expand their App library. No update is required and is available now.

Bigger Opportunity for iPad Developers With New International iPad App Store

Indeed Twitter is best place to find the real time news on anything. Number of Tweets shows that the iPad App Store is now live in certain European countries, like UK, France and Germany, as well as in other parts of the world like Australia and New Zealand.

People in Europe were able to pre-order the iPad on May 10, and the device is scheduled to ship on May 28, by Apple. Now, for those who couldn’t wait that long to see the iPad in their countries and ordered from America via their friends and family are now able to access iPad App Store from Europe and other parts of the world.

Now with the iPad appstore going international I think we are going to see a lot of magazine apps very soon.
Basically, iPad developers can now reach a wider international user base and you might see your favorite non-American magazine / news app really soon on iPad. There gonna be lots of App in the App Store and it would not be surprising to see 6 digits apps only for iPad in the near future.

Are you gearing up for this new opportunity?
