iPad & iPod touch users all set to explore FaceTime Technology

Can you use your iPad for video conference? Can you use it for instant push messaging?
Well not yet, but soon you can have a generation next iPad and iPod touch with such facilities.

Apple is planning to upgrade iPads and iPod Touches in near future with front facing cameras to introduce FaceTime video conferencing technology to the devices, Boy Genius Report covered.

As per a BGR source within Apple, the company is going to roll out the real-time communications tools soon to a group of Apple mobile devices and computers. It is also reported that as of now they are focusing on iPad and next generation iPod Touch devices to introduce the technology.

iPad and iPod Touch are not the phones, and so don’t have phone numbers. However with the use of this technology, the iPad & iPod touch users will be able to invite others for a FaceTime conversation using the e-mail address.

Each Apple device is registered with an unique user’s Apple ID, which will allow them to use this service. Apple is also planing to add instant push message functions to FaceTime. The new iOS 4.1 SDK is equipped with the provisions to support such technologies. This can again open a new opportunity for the iPad developers to come up with some innovative apps.

iBooks 1.1.2 Update released : Apple

Previously we saw the iBooks 1.1.1, Apple has updated the app again. iBooks 1.1.1 introduced the ability to double-tap an image within a book in order to view it in greater detail and the ability to experience books that include audio and video, among other fixes.

The 1.1.2 update only lists one fix: “Addresses a minor issue when updating iBooks.” While we can’t tell what it’s actually fixed , it’s nice to see Apple is on top of things.

Users can let us know any new feature noticed in iBooks 1.1.2

New lawsuit against Apple as overheated iPads malfunction

A petition has been filed in the Federal Court in Oakland, California, against Apple Inc., on July 23, claiming that, the iPad “does not live up to the reasonable consumer’s expectations created by Apple” as it “overheats so quickly under common weather conditions.”
The iPad has seen grand success since the day it was launched and has actually developed a huge fan base very soon. However, the complain about overheating has always been there and this lawsuit probably makes an official point of it. Bloomberg quoted the complaint saying, in direct sunlight, the tablet “turns off, sometimes after just a few minutes of use.”
Co-incidentally the case has been filed 3 days after Apple has announced their sales report on July 20 figuring a sale of 3.27 millions iPads in the last quarter. It’s noteworthy that the iPad which has been introduced on April 3, has almost outsold the decade old iPod.
iOS devices are known to offer an emergency overheating mode which shuts down the device immediately and displays a warning screen until and unless the device has sufficiently cooled down to allow normal operations. However the emergency overheating mode allows only the emergency calls on iPhone. Apple has published a guiding document on the issue of overheating for the iPhone 3G, and update it periodically. The updated guide is now available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad.
The case has been booked as ‘Baltazar v. Apple Inc., 10-03231, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (Oakland).’

Adobe’s publishing software for iPad and other tablets

Adobe has started working on a new kind of software specially designed to help publishers publish magazines for tablet devices such as iPad the company revealed today .

You can download this new software, which will soon take its place in the Creative Suite pantheon, from Adobe Labs and will include tools that bridge the gap between print-oriented InDesign and software for interactive formats.

Adobe’s goal is to make it simpler for more publishers to create and profit from tablet magazines like Wired’s hugely successful iPad offering. Wired used InDesign and a mix of other software to make its product.

The new Adobe technologies will focus on mobile hardware-specific needs, including 360-degree image rotation and pinch/swipe gestural navigation for panning and zooming. This is currently accomplished through an AIR utility, the Interactive Overlay Creator. In future versions of InDesign, the Interactive Overlay Creator will be an integrated feature.

Adobe will let you import layouts from InDesign to the new workflow. From there, you’ll be able to add metadata, experiment with portrait and landscape layouts, and export content to the .issue format — a brand-new, ready-to-render file for digital magazines.
