iPed – The Chinese version of iPad

The iPad went live in the Japanese market yesterday , along with it the TV news have also covered another product , that’s the iPed . According to TV news the device is on sale in Shenzhen , China . This is the location of the world largest Foxconn plant where the Apple goodies are manufactured .

The box iPed comes into is just similar to iPod , but when you unbox it you see iPed logo on the home screen which takes you to the music player . Printing mistake – the manuals , which says Apad , ohhh that’s funny , I hope both the departments named the device according to their own desires .

The device feels heavier than the iPad , powered by Intel chip runs Android OS , almost same features like the iPad have been seen in the iPed or Apad or ChinesePad whatever you call it  . The device is priced around $105 , ohhh cheaper than  a dumb smartphone .

With so many Android devices coming in do you think it would be hard enough to keep up with the apps on the Android market for each device . So iPad application developers what do you have to say about this , how good is it for Android application developers to develop for these devices ?

Wired Magazine for iPad is now live in App Store

This App was demoed & announced in March, and showed us the new look of magazine on iPad. This app is heavily loaded with interactive / multimedia content, like slide show, video and music. Wired Magazine for iPad is live in App Store for $4.99.

The total size of the app is around 527MB, which shows that app is packed with enough of multimedia content and this is not an ideal app to be downloaded on the go via a 3G network instead you’d prefer downloading it through Wifi.

Do you know that Conde Nast was actually in talk with Adobe early this year to get their Wired Magazine to iPad and various tablet platforms? Since, Apple’s announcement that they’re not going to allow cross-platform code developed through cross-compilers to the App Store. Indeed, this Wired Magazine for iPad delayed because of this and Conde Nast planned not to use Adobe’s cross-platform code and used Apple’s Objective-C, which is iPhone’s native language, to develop this app.

Why iPad is Banned in Yankee Stadium

This is the 3rd news regarding iPad ban on ipad application developer so is it on the web, well the iPad’s have been banned at the Yankee Stadium, the stadium has a “no laptop “security policy and patrons won’t be able to enter the ball field with a laptop in their possession, iPad being a laptop-replacement (according to some) seems like it would fall under that category as well. Yahoo Sports confirmed with the same previously.
But the iPad was issued a statement from Transportation Security Administration that it need not be removed from bag for a separate check at airports and is TSA friendly but Yankee stadium says it’s a no-go device.

But a user on IGN boards Spacekatgal posted the same day during the game, she was refused to enter the stadium by the guards but later on she slipped the iPad inside the jacket and then re-entered and posted this:

I’m at the game right now, watching them play the Red Sox. The security people told me it was not allowed and I was turned away at the gates.

Why on earth would they have this policy? Terrorism concerns? I couldn’t get an answer. I snuck it in under my jacket.. I bring it to Fenway all the time and they don’t care.

Scary.

Bri

So now can we call the iPad TSA friendly ?

Bigger Opportunity for iPad Developers With New International iPad App Store

Indeed Twitter is best place to find the real time news on anything. Number of Tweets shows that the iPad App Store is now live in certain European countries, like UK, France and Germany, as well as in other parts of the world like Australia and New Zealand.

People in Europe were able to pre-order the iPad on May 10, and the device is scheduled to ship on May 28, by Apple. Now, for those who couldn’t wait that long to see the iPad in their countries and ordered from America via their friends and family are now able to access iPad App Store from Europe and other parts of the world.

Now with the iPad appstore going international I think we are going to see a lot of magazine apps very soon.
Basically, iPad developers can now reach a wider international user base and you might see your favorite non-American magazine / news app really soon on iPad. There gonna be lots of App in the App Store and it would not be surprising to see 6 digits apps only for iPad in the near future.

Are you gearing up for this new opportunity?

Apple Brings Back 20 Years Old Ad Theme for iPad

Apple launched a new iPad ad tonight called “What is iPad”. The ad is a little different from their recent iPad ads and contains a brief narration on what is iPad. After watching the ad however, we could see the correlation between this ad and the series of ads Apple did around 20 years back for Apple Newton.

If they continue to follow the same trend we are likely to see two more ads for “Who is iPad” and “Where is iPad”, just the way they did for Apple Newton.

Apple Newton was the first PDA, launched in 1993. The product was not very successful though, mainly due to the initial bad press that it received and they could never overcome that. Later Steve Jobs decided to discontinue the product.

Steve Jobs Says Yes to iPad Printing

MacRumors mentioned than Steve Jobs answered an user’s email that asked Why the iPad cannot print document and Steve sent a short reply saying “it will come”.

While Steve has been very active recently answering to emails by various Apple product users his answers has always been pretty short and abrupt and in this case it is missing a critical component. He has mentioned that iPad is going to get printing but when ? the email doesn’t say anything on that.

Let’s just hope that iPad gets printing capabilities at the earliest and Apple doesn’t keep us waiting for long.

iPad Now Available for International Market

Apple kept its promise, International pre-orders for iPad are open as of today.

People from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK can pre-order iPad from today onwards from their country specific online Apple Stores. However, it will not be before 28th May that the devices start shipping for those countries.

As it has always been with all Apple products, European customers will have to pay a much higher price for the iPad. Particularly, those in the UK will need to pay a minimum of 429 GBP to get an iPad, if they are looking for a 3G version the price would go upto a minimum of  529 GBP.

This international availability of iPad would definitely warm up the iPad application market further as there will be a bigger customer base and also more and more iPad application developers would step into the market.

Ipad gets jailbroken ???

A jailbreak was evenly expected following the iPad’s launch, but the rapid discovery has shown that the iPhone 3.2 firmware used on the device hasn’t patched all of the security holes that were present in the 3.1.3 code.

And finally the iPad firmware 3.2 was jailbroken by MuscleNerd a member of iPhone Dev team .According to them the firmware has many security holes and they jail broke the device using the iPhone 3.1.3 hack within 24 hours.

Most jailbreaks till date have used vulnerabilities either in Safari or the OS itself to grant unrestricted access. The combination of the risk to users and Apple’s own general discouragement of jailbreaking has led to many of these jailbreaks being rendered inert over time with firmware updates.

Wow great news for ipad application developers who have been rejected by app store can now run their apps on jailbroken iPads .

1 million iPad's sold

iPad 3G is doing pretty well when it comes to sales and there was never a second thought that iPad could do low on sales. The iPad 3G was sold as much as the iPad non-3G model during the weekend after launch. Around 300K iPad 3G’s were sold on the weekend which account for the overall sales figure reach the 1 million mark . Apple sold 1million iPad’s in just 28 days from the launch , and the figures include the pre booked units and walk in sales which is less than half the time iPhone reached this mark which was 74 days after the launch .

iPad development has also played a vital role in this scenario with about 5000 iPad specific apps which make use of iPad’s cool features like multi touch and 200,000 iPhone apps which run on the the iPad platform , which have been downloaded several times by the vast majority of users are now enhancing the iPad’s usability and user experience giving a boost to the sales of iPad .

If the figures are accurate, then Apple’s iPad would become the quickest-selling tablet and eBook reader to date.Amazon is estimated to have sold about 3 million Kindles to date, but it took about 2-years to hit such a figure, while Apple may exceed that in just 6-months.
