SURL Study Shows 83% People Are Satisfied With iPad

Despite the increasing number of offerings from the rivalries, Apple has managed to maintain a significant lead in the Tablet PC space. Market research firm IDC reports that Apple’s share of global market in the third quarter was estimated to be 61.5%. Another study by Software Usability Research Laboratory (SURL) shows Apple iPad continues to satisfy its customers.

According to the study (SURL’s study used a small sample set of 52 respondents), 83.65% were satisfied with the iPad. The survey also asked to rate the user-friendliness of the device — 62% rated the iPad as “Excellent”, 21% rated as “Good”, 10% as “Best Imaginable”, 4% as “Fair”, 2% as “Poor”.

iPad

According to the respondents, the popularity of iPad was because of the variety of apps, the large screen size and portability. What people liked least was the poor quality of some apps, the inability to play Adobe Flash, and problems typing with the keyboard.

SURL stated that Apple actually listens to its customers. Participants from the original study mentioned that lack of camera and the ability to do multitasking is one of the drawbacks of the tablet PC. Apple introduced cameras in iPad 2 and the multitasking feature was introduced for both ipad and ipad 2.

Google iPad ‘Catalogs’ For Holiday Shopping From Home

Using Google Books technology, the Internet giant Google has launched new Catalogs app on Monday for iPad and Android. Looking at the app, one can easily say this Holiday will be like shopping for your near ones sitting on your couch. The customers will be able to shop directly from their iPad using this application. The app will simply scan the catalogs from retailers into a digital form from where customers can purchase.

Catalogs

Catalogs are taken from more than 125 brands spanning more than 400 digital catalog issues. Retailers like ThinkGeek, Williams-Sonoma, Nike, Sharper Image and Pottery Barn have aldready enlisted in Catalogs. The iPad essentially loads up the app and allows users to flip through the virtual pages to find something they want and purchase it through an internal link, which opens up in a browser within the application.

This free iPad app will be a great assistance to those who are looking for holidays gifts and discounts on major brands.

Google Introduces Updated iPad Search App

Google has updated their Google Search app for iPad with Google Instant Search capability. This iPad app from Google will now display results as and when a user types any keyword.

The iPad app has also been updated with a new search history system that has been designed to make it easier for iPad users to find old searches on the iPad. Daniel Fish – Google’s software engineer for iPad explains in a blog post.

“Often you may be looking to find something you have seen before or are continuing research on a topic. But on a tablet, typing can be a challenge. That is why we have created a visual way to explore your search history,” Fish said.

“Swipe right to view snapshots of pages you’ve visited, stacked and organized by search term. You can also manage your search history from this new view.”

However, this update from Google has somewhat annoyed members from its own community. Several Android tablet owners have shown their frustrations with Google for giving importance to rival smartphone than its own platform.

Twin iPad 2s Make Spooky Halloween Costume

NASA thinks of something that no one else can think of…and this Halloween will taste a little innovation from NASA.

NASA engineer Mark Rober created a Halloween costume that makes it look like he’s had a giant hole blown clean through his torso. He used some red sauce and two iPads 2 to pretend to have a bloody wound through the core of the torso.

According to Mark Rober, it was simple and easy. Tearing a hole in your sweatshirt and then placing an iPad 2 in front and behind and finally starting a Face Time chat between the two.

“I went to a Halloween party tonight and had tried out my costume idea of using 2 iPads with a FaceTime chat to make it look like I had a huge hole in my stomach,” said Rober, a mechanical engineer who works for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in an e-mail to Wired.com. (Source: Wired.com)

Apple ‘Rumour Factory’ – iPad 3 Slated for Q1 2012 Release

The Apple ‘Rumour Factory’ have again started grinding. Now, it is with iPad 3. Reports suggest that the Apple iPad 3 has entered production just days after the iPhone 4S release.

With iPhone 4S now a distant memory, all the attention and rumours are turned to iPad 3 reportedly entering production.

iPad3

With an iPad 3 release date not expected until around March or April of 2012, industry analyst Jeff Fidacaro of Susquehanna Financial has claimed the third-gen iPad device has entered production in China with the iPad 2 replacement to be constructed alongside 11 to 13 million of the current Apple tablet.

“Since our last month supply chain checks we are now seeing 600,000 to one million iPad 3 builds showing up on the plan for the fourth quarter of calendar 2011.” Said Fidacaro.

The last two generations of iPads have both been released around the same time each year, launching in March in both the States and in Western Europe and so we are expecting the same release date for iPad 3 next year.

Facebook iPad App – Worth Trying

It is very much dificult to believe that Facebook took a year-and-a-half to release their own iPad application. The app was reportedly delayed several times and was even leaked. Finally, the app arrived on October 10, 2011.

Facebook for iPad Version 4.0.2 is now available online in Apple’s App Store. The latest version will also work on Apple iPhones and the iPod touch. The 4.0.2 version features upgrades like improved browsing, search features that are easier to use, access to Facebook apps and games and high resolution photos.

Facebook iPad App

The most attractive part of this iPad Facebook app is viewing pictures. In addition to the images just looking good on the iPad screen, you can quickly swipe through pictures one at a time, or move your finger to the left/right of the thumbnails at the botton for even faster navigation.

In an update on Facebook’s official blog Leon Dubinsky said, “With the iPad app, you get the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips. It’s a fun way to keep up with friends, share photos, chat and more.”…. “”Your games, apps, groups and lists are in the left-hand menu, so you don’t have to dig around to find the stuff you use most. And your messages and
notifications are at the top of every screen, so you can respond to friends and keep up with important updates—without losing your place.”
